Turning around a UK Manufacturing Business
I joined the
board of Mercian Labels Ltd
in January 2001 to facilitate a turnaround in the company's fortunes after
several years of difficult trading. Mercian Labels is now the UK's leading
short run label printer, specialising in fast delivery of labels to UK
SME's.
As Managing
Director I am responsible for new business, strategic management, marketing,
HR, lean manufacturing, customer relations and all aspects of running
a SME.
My major successes
to date include :
- Turning the business
around into profitability, from a six figure loss over 3 years to
a regular decent and growing profit
- Increasing the equity
value of the business 5 fold over 4 years
- negotiation of a £1/4
M Management Buyout and transfer to second generation management team
- finding a successful
market niche to secure the business's future.
- Implementing and achieving
internal improvements in staffing to achieve the Investors in People
standard in under 12 months
- Teaching staff to manage
the business with little reference to more senior colleagues
- Making key management
information and accounts accurate and available to all to make decisions
